Hi - I planted a Photinia about 10 years ago that is now about 3.5 meters high - yes I let it go a bit. It is now very woody with just a green canopy across the top. Can anyone tell me if I cut it back will it sprout from the old wood? I would like to cut it back to about 1.5 meters .

    Thanks

    Ann

PS - I will leave this until the Autumn - we have a drought here in the SE corner of Kent - even large trees are showing signs of stress. Does anyone know how to do a rain dance? :-)

Cutting photinia back helps it to produce those red leaves at the top, Ann.

Once you've cut it back, I'd give it a good feed with something like blood, fish and bone, just to give it a boost to put on new growth.

Like Strawman said, you will have lots and lots of red leaves when it regrows.

    Hope this Helps!
