Cuttings from geraniums

    Hi all, my friend says that it is possible to take a cutting from a geranium? If so how do you do this?

    To Steve's link I would add the following advise - assuming we are talking pelergoniums rather than the cransbill.

    The biggest cause of death of geranium cuttings is damp - make sure you chose a window sill is in a room you do not often grow, so they tend to be kept on the dry side. The best success I had with them was in my spare bedroom window sill, got a lot of light in the winter months, plus central heating, and I constantly forgot to go in to check them. Greenhouse, no, too damp over winter even with heat and fan

    thank you both for your advise, as a amateur gardener will give it go have nothing to lose!
    Will the original geranium die because i cuttings off of it? and will i be to store over winter to plant back out in spring? [​IMG]

    The original should live in a frost free place over winter but you will probably find the cuttings overtake the old plant with more vigour, You could keep the original as a stock plant for more cuttings
