My small but quite old specimen of Dioon edule is growing a few new fronds, But my Cycas Revoluta has at last decieded to make a move, I think its three or four years now that it has been sulking, since I planted it outside. Perhaps its all the summer rain this year.
Yes yours Is Revoluta I believe LOL. Its just that the centre of mine has been expanding but without making new fronds.
Hey, pete, but then it looks like progress there for your conditions and you always do so well with everything. I'm amazed mine looks so good in the heat in a rubber pot! :D
This is my cycas revoluta. It started to get brown frond ends so I took it out of its pot and planted it directly in the garden. That seems to have stabilised it but the winter and a large bale of straw will tell. John [ 08. August 2007, 08:01 AM: Message edited by: Sarraceniac ]
Yes John, they are not the hardiest of plants, but I'm giving mine a try, survived last winter in a sheltered spot with no protection. If you look at the section entitled "How To" there is a pretty good description as to posting pics.
I kept my Revoluta outside this winter in its 3 litre pot and has just thrown up 5 new fronds at last.
Got the pic up then John, just need to downsize it slightly so it fits better. Ah, but you are very mild down there strongy, I hope the new fronds really harden up well before the winter.
I've got 2 one stays outside and one inside, the one outside got 11 new leaves last yr, the one inside only 5. But this year none have come on both, they usually start to sprout in June if there are going to be any.
Seems to prove TO that outside is best, if its mild enough. My revoluta is only just showing so perhaps there is still time for yours this year.
Sorry to anyone with dial-up about the size of my earlier pic, I am still finding my way round this excellent, friendly forum. My Photoshop had crashed (again) so I couldn't edit it easily, I think it is now slightly better. The problem I had getting it to show at all was because I was using Yahoo's photo storage (Flickr). Switched to Photobucket and no prob. Ah well, I only had 30+ years in the trade. John [ 08. August 2007, 08:09 AM: Message edited by: Sarraceniac ]
Trouble is if I get any now they might not harden off enough for the winter, unless we get a very mild one like last yr.
I think there is at least twelve or more new ones coming, but as its done nothing for three years or so,so its about time. Yes they do grow daily, but not as fast as I thought they might.
