Figured this was more tropical than edible so placed it here!

Anyone grow or ever grown these? I decided to give them a go and purchased a young cutting a couple of months back. It arrived as a green rooted piece of stem, no leaves!

This thing has really taken off. The leaves are huge an very lush looking, very much looking forward to getting it planted in a rage container once the weather is warm enough.

The fruit ripens during the winter so I'm not really holding out much hope of getting any but it should till make quite a striking feature plant.

I grew one from seed years ago, it went to 6ft before the first flower truss, then it does the usual nightshade family trick of dividing and forming truss after truss.
If yours is a cutting I dont think it should get so tall before the first truss, and could end up more bushy.

The leaves are impressive, mine fruited in a frost free greenhouse and the fruit ripened ok, but I cant say I was impressed with the taste.:)

Show me the way to tamarillo....

Someone gave me a few seeds as I'd admired their huge leafy plant. They were fine, but I bought seeds the following year, nothing grew. I'm told they have to be fresh. I have overwintered the one seedling I must have managed to germinate but it's waited till spring to die.

*Bright idea* I'll go and buy a tamarillo fruit, the seeds in there are bound to be fresh!

          ...weeping like a willow
Sha la la la la la la la.....

Saw this as a tree at The Temperate House, Kew, amazing and strange looking tree.
            Good luck growing it!

I'm going to miss The Temperate House whilst it's being done up, to me the plants grown in there, could be grown by us. Whereas the Palm House is like Disneyland, a once only growing experience:heehee:
