I have always hated working with Formica Laminate Sheets.
I have always ended up with bits shattering at the cut edge of the sheets after cutting to size.

I received a D.I.Y tip last week which I tried ,with great success.:dbgrtmb:.

I have been renewing the Bathroom/Shower area and some bathroom units with a green marble effect Formica. The Tip as follows.
    (1) Measure and mark with a pencil on the Back side of the Formica.
    (2) Draw your lines that you are going to cut.
    (3) Stick 1 inch masking tape directly onto the cut line, the mark should show through the masking tape.
    (4) With a straight edge, remark the masking tape so you can see your cut marking easier before cutting.
    (5) I used a Black and Decker Jig Saw with an Ultra 8016 HSS (small teeth blade to cut the Formica).
(6)I started cutting the boards with a small hand saw about 1/4 inch in, just prior to using the Big Guns.
    (7) Remember, Cut from the back of the board on a flat steady surface and cut directly through the Masking Tape Mark.:blue thumb:.

I used this Tip and not one of the boards chipped or flaked.
After cutting I finished the edges off with Sandpaper.

I thought I would share this Tip to help people, like myself who have been a bit apprehensive cutting Formica Laminate Sheets.:hate-shocked:.

Or you could Purchase a Formica Board LASER Cutting Machine-----JQ 1390 with C.E :dunno:.
    Cost @ £1000--£2000.

But just remember what nearly happened to James Bond in Goldfinger (1963).

I Think a roll of Masking Tape, Pencil, Fine Tooth Blade and Jig Saw and Patience is Much Much Cheaper And more Fulfilling to us D.I.Y Enthusiasts :blue thumb:.

    HAPPY D.I.Y. :pathd::pathd:.

I worked with formica many years ago, we used a tungsten tipped tool to score the sheets then snapped them in the same way you cut glass sheets.

And don't force the cutter forward, let it cut and glide.
