I have done a search on here and on the net and can't find the answer to my question.....

But, I am not sure what way to plant my dahlia tuber? I read somewhere that it should be fingers down. I assume this is the long bits. What bit is the crown? I have 3 and they are all so different I am confused [IMG]

    Any help would be appreciated.

Gilly your right fingers down, the crown is the bit were all the fingers come together you will notice any small shoots that appear will point up, if plants have more than one crown it is possible to split them giving you more plants

In other words, the tubers go into the ground with the old stems from last year just sticking up above the surface. This is where the new shoots come from.

I split one of my dahlias this year and lost a number of tubers :eek Hope they'll be okay!

I am so glad that someone else doesnt know either!!! I bought a load mail order then when I went to plant them hadnt got a clue. In the end mine had little bits on the one end where I presume the previos years flower was so I decided that way was up! Planted them anyway. They were all dried and shrivelled and didnt know if I had to soak them beforehand but didnt! Hope they all come up
