Hi all, just bought some tubers on offer. Is it too late to start them for this year?

If you dont start them this year they will be dead next year.

Plenty of time for Dahlias, I just planted some saved tubers a couple of weeks ago, the larger types dont flower until August anyway.

Excellent. Was just a bit worried I'd been dipped into a bargain that wasn't really a bargain! I planted them all on Friday, so will now just hope for some lovely flowers in a couple of months. :-)

I need to plant some more tubers . Only one out of the three I bought sprouted. Just had a probe in one of the others , and nothing is happening after 4 weeks -maybe it takes longer? I got confused on the planting instructions , how deep should you plant the tubers in pots in the GH , before you transfer them to the garden ?

        TIA

You dont actually need to cover the crown when potting up, that way you can see when the shoots start forming.
You can then plant them a couple of inches deeper when you plant out.

We got another 3 dahlia tubers from Wilkos , only £1 a piece. Potted them up with the crown level . They were actually showing signs of sprouting when we took them out of the bag. So, touch wood , all should be well :dbgrtmb:

I have also bought 1 dahlia tuber from wilko today for 0.75p. I felt guilty and compelled to do some gardening after the visit to Kew Gardens last Sunday. Anyway this dahlia should come out white with pink tips. Any idea how long will it flower for?

I have one poking above the soil now, after being left in the ground over winter so now it seems is the correct time :dbgrtmb: Mine's in the shade though!
