I used to have a red pom pom - ouuu errr given to me by a show man, I got sick of overwintering tubers - such a shame. Yours are much further on than mine.

We have a very dark coloured one in my parent's garden - the first year we forgot about digging it out to overwinter the tuber. The next year it flowered again. Then that winter I dug it up by mistake and split the tuber. I put the original piece in the same place and the new piece a bit further away. Again they both flowered the next year! Now they seem to be indestuctable! If only all plants were that tough! :D

I love the Deco Rose one, in the first pic. I haven't tried Dahlias yet, but this is really pretty, so might look for this next year. Are they annuals?

no tubers - you have to lift them and overwinter the dried tuber inside - unless you are frost ferr

I grow mine from seed every year, most tubers don't make it through the winter, usually I get a good show, but this year I put them into a different bed, one which really heats up in the sun. The combination of the heat and drought scorched them.

Edinburgh... Frogesque that's an oldie, I remember growing that in the 70's with Grenadier, Dahlhouse peach and Rothsay Yellow and many others. I only grow bedding dahlias now and from seed (more practical in a parks nursery.)I hadn't seen Edinburgh for years, brought back memories. [IMG]

        Beautiful.

Teach the newbie, can i keep one of these in a pot outside, when to sow it/plant it, how to keep it, what on earth is overwintering and ditto to tubers?

Some gorgeous looking plants that I'd like to add to my wishlist!

All my dahlias at the moment are growing in pots - you just got to remember to feed them and support them.

If you in a area with quite sharp drainage, then dahlias can be overwintered outside in the garden - but me I have clay, and they rot over winter. So I just lift the tubers, clean off the soil, and leave them in the greenhouse to dry. Come February/March I plant them in pots in the greenhouse and begine watering - hardening them off on the patio at the end of April, before planting after all danger of frost has gone
