I love these little jewels that float round the garden and have encouraged them as much as I can. Wonderful to see that the next generation will be on its way. They were having a major mating/laying eggs fest in the front pond yesterday. Not a brilliant photo as I only had my iPhone to hand, but hopefully you can make out the neon blue males, mainly vertical, and the paler females, clasped by a male and busy laying eggs on the underwater plants.

These guys were all around me when I was fishing on the River Nene in Rutland last year.

I am amazed at the beauty of these photographs, and glad to see the damselfly celebrated on these pages. I first saw them at Fairburn Ings,a wildlife and wetland reserve on the outskirts of Castleford, near where I grew up in West Yorks, when I was sixteen. I am working with two local photographers on an exhibition of wildlife photography and poetry, and one of the images will be of a damselfly - the photographer won an award for it. My poem Damselfly appears in my first published collection, Little Creatures.

Glad you like them, Beckie.:snork: I was sitting on the banks of the River Nene doing a little fishing and those guys were flying around ignoring me. Having said that they were about 12' away from me which was just out of range for a good shot with the lens I had on, but "luckily" I had a fairly old 80-120 Pentax telephoto lens in a pocket so I used that and those pics, and others, were the result.:dunno::heehee:

Alright, I admit it, Woo, when fishing or wandering around the countryside I do tend to have the pockets of my Bodywarmer filled with one or two camera lens, a pruning knife, a Leatherman knife, various bits of string/twine, small screwdriver, etc:doh::dunno::heehee:
