Hi just wondering if anybody can help me with a little prob. I have.

Got my small lawn looking very nice barring a few dandelions, what is the best way to get rid of these and also how do I stop them returning to haunt me.

Any ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

    Marc

Hi Chappy I usually gently dig the whole plant out ,But you must remove all the tap roots If any bits break off they will grow again ,this will eradicate all the dandelions .you can of course do it with a systemic weed killer by painting the leaves. The seeds can travel to 7-10 miles by the wind sometimes,Hope this helps. I use the 'Weed and Feed' method these days.In the past I dug them out, as Woo mentions, but with a neighbour who thinks they look beautiful I am fighting a losing battle...How would you fancy having this next to your plot??

Try a pinch of salt in the centre of the dandelion it will die in a few days

they grow so fast as well! Yesterday I mowed the lawn and no yellow flowers to be seen - today there is one standing as straight as you like! If only everything grew as fast ;)
Salt is great, I got that tip from frugal gardening and salted my flag stone cracks and can say not a weed has emerged since! Be careful though as it kills grass too.

I hate the things and have a daily battle with them. I'm sure they see me coming and hide because i can go to work after checking that there are none around and when i get home again there they are about a foot high.
