Hi folks. My Date Palm has turned brown, hardly any sign of 'greeness' at all. A dead one you think ? Cheers...freddy.

Not necessarily, but it may sulk for years and produce poor growth. By which time you may be sick of the sight of it. Depending on size grow it in the greenhouse or bin it for another. They are pretty cheap in large sizes. Mine have come through ok again but they are fairly established and planted in either the ground or very large pots.

Freddie if the central spear(newest leaf in the middle) is brown I would suspect that it has gone completely. There is a chance it will grow again if it is still green.
The thought of thousands of brown dead and dying Date palms all over the country is not a pleasant one but this winter has been a severe test of their and other palms' hardiness.
As BM says, they are fairly cheap to replace and I guess a lot will be this spring.

Ok folks, thanks for the replies. I only planted it last year, so not much time has been invested in it anyway. As you say BM, they aren't very expensive. I can't remember what I payed, but it wasn't much. It's just a pity to see dead plants. Looks like I lost some ferns too :( Cheers...freddy.
