    Where do I begin?

First of all my eldest is getting married on the 6th April this year.

Secondly, she requested that we do not do speeches.

Now she has stated that she wants to see my speech and hope that it does not conflict with anybody elses.

I do not know where to begin nor what to say now, as she has put me into a bit of a dilema with no chance of winging it before the day arrives.

Your help on this matter would be much appriciated by a Dad who has never done this before.

Many thanks in anticipation.:sofa: :yikes: :wallbanging:

Sorry as you can tell in the wrong place :oopss:

Should have gone into the general discussion not the garden, but that is where I feel I aught to be at the moment not working.

Well, and how old is she?? and are you paying some of her wedding bill???

What I would do, is say, yes dear, and at the appropriate moment at her wedding, stand up and say exactly what I wish to say. What is she going to do scream, shut up, disown you as parents. That is so rude of her to ask you what you are going to say.
Unless you have a history of saying really personal embarasing things in general, then maybe she has a point.

25 yrs old and a red head. Yes Bank of Dad is empty due to this affair.
I have always been a jovial sort of character to my family but do not do so well in crowds.
Embarrass, encourage, and even tell evils about what they have gotten up to over the years.
Trouble is I can only do this infront of people I know not those who I have never met.

The chances are that those you know will be there, and you'll be on familiar ground:dbgrtmb: and those who you have never met - you won't meet again.
I'm sure you will say the sincere things that come from your heart Landimad, they are the words that matter. Yours; no one else's words.
I wish you and your daughter every happiness on the Great Day,
              Jenny

I think it's important to say what you want/mean. I've been to a few weddings, and TBH, I get fed up with hearing the usual falsehoods. I think it's important to try to enjoy the day, and not worry about any speeches, which in the grand scheme of things, are not so important. I don't mean to make little of it, indeed, it will seem like a massive issue. Just say what's important, and what comes from your heart. No-one is judging you!

I agree with others. Say what you think is appropriate. You can always write some basic, stock scripted speech for approval first if it keeps the peace. That said, I'm not a dad of a lass getting married so I know nowt.

On my wedding day, I lost my script. I had my speech all written down but I left it at the hotel, which was not the same hotel as the reception was at, so I had to wing it. It might have been me, but it seemed that although all the faces were pointing my way when I was speaking, I could have spoke about alien invasions and been fine, just as long as I sprinkled it with random phrases like 'beautiful', and 'soul mate' and 'bridesmaids...stunning' and 'good friends'. It doesn't matter what you say as long as you get the important words in. By speeches time everyone will either be too tired or too drunk (or both) to really pay attention to what you say.

I remember a wedding I went to, the groom said of his bride, " she looks beautiful, she must have spent hours working at it...":heehee:

So there it is. I just love it, 25 years old and a red head, as if the latter will now shed light on her personality. I am also a red head. LOL.
As you are paying for this event, you have a right to speak out your feelings.

It was meant to be a compliment, it just came out wrong. Yes, they are still married, although he is now seriously ill....
