    1. hi all.
I bought a david austin, Princess of Alexandra of kent rose from a supplier here in europe, not directly from david austin and it has just started blooming. However, it seems to have 2 different types of flower.

Could anyone help explain why this is?
I'm assuming something to do with a grafted rose vs own root. And should I contact the supplier to complain??

    Thanks in advance!

It will be grafted onto a rootstock. I would leave it for a bit longer and observe some more flowers. It may take a bit of time to settle into it's new home also what's your weather been like and whereabouts in Europe are you?

Hi I'm in germany. And it has been very wet and relatively cold .

Ok I will wait and see what happens.
But would you say thay the flowers in the 2nd and 3rd photos are not typical PA of kent roses.?

As I don't grow that particular rose I'll decline to comment.
However earlier this spring it wet and cold over here and my first few roses on a number of varieties, both hybrid T and shrub types, were distinctly untypical in their colour and general appearance. More recently they have improved as the weather has warmed a bit and the incessant wet has stopped.

Your first pic looks like Princess Alexandra of Kent, certainly. Lovely rose, the clearest lipstick rose pink. Not sure what's happening with the others, though, sorry.

The Expert - I'm sure there's at least one - will be along soon, no doubt, to advise.

Hi I'm certainly no expert but I have a DA rose wich looks like this when it's fully in bloom but looks like your second picture when it starts to open so I would say it's probably normal and just taking it's time opening.

Of course an expert will probably be along shortly to disagree :)

I’m not sure they are different just maybe affected by weather as suggested.

yes the current roses that are blooming look like typical Alexandra of Kent roses now. so it was probably weather related
