Can you help and put me out of my misery!!!!! [IMG] [IMG]

I have just finished reading the book (again) and its excellent!!!!
Hubby insisted it had a different ending - but perhaps that was from a film version of it - or even a different book totally??

His ending was - the people ended up living in a Lighthouse and killed the Triffids with sea water.

Does anyone recognise this ending and where did it come from?? (or have I won my argument and he HAS gone senile???!!!??? :D :D )

This is the Howard Keel film version that was completely different from the book and the BBC TV series that is now available on DVD. Two of the characters are on a lighthouse and find out that salt water kills the Triffids. The book is excellent and has no such happy ending and the TV series is a fair reproduction of the book, a few characters are merged and some of the survivor groups are not mentioned but the BBC series is the one to watch, the film is good fodder for a Sunday afternoon but don't expect much, think of it more as a Doug McClure movie version!!!

oooh - thanks for that!!! Argument avoided!! Yes, the book is very good - we caught a bit of the TV series on bbc3. The boys were quite taken (being sci-fi fans). I bought the book for my 11 year old to read, but found I couldn't put it down!! I did read it at school, but it was nice to read it over again and refresh the old grey matter!!!! (and it was also good for the little darlings to finally understand why us adults always refer to overgrown weeds/ plants as triffids!!!!!)

An excellent read if anypne is interested!!!

I read it years ago and it was a great story. I also like John Wyndham's other books, particularly "The Chrysalids" - great stuff and would make a fab film.

Yeah, read it as a kid. Great book. I also liked his "The Kraken Wakes". Then I got into Isaac Asimov and a variety of other authors but I think it was that book that got me into Sc-Fi, for which I'm grateful.
