It made a nice change Catz, there is a lot of new stuff going on down there in preparation for Melinda's olympic visit. New traffic systems & roads n stuff.

The look the Swan was giving me is probably because I picked him up last time I was down there, Swans don't forget you:snork:

Nice pics Zig. The last one amused me. I'll tell you what though, doesn't Weymouth look like Whitby? Even the swing bridge looks like Whitby's one.

It's funny you should say that Clueless. I was just thinking it looks like Castletown here on the island. :)

          Love the pictures Ziggy! :dbgrtmb:

I guess when the formula works, no point changing it.

I was last in Weymouth in 1972 to catch the Jersey ferry, never did find the riverside , it looks lovely. Also Sheal I think I have been to everywhere on the IOM except Castletown . Seems like I keep missing the good spots ! Been to Whitby though :dbgrtmb:
Looking at Weymouth on google maps , due south towards Portland Bill, there is a huge manmade....... well it looks like a harbour but the openings seem small

It's the old Naval Harbour Harry, the breakwaters are huge & ships were scuttled in the gaps during the war to stop u boats getting in. There are Mullet fishing trips to them, but I think you have to be a club member.

The Navy pulled out some 10 years ago, think thats why we're doing the olympics there now.

Melinda said she'd e mail me her schedule as soon as she knows.

Never been to Whitby, but studied it in Geography so I know what you mean.

Some years back a little fluffy rat got off a ship at Weymouth & wiped out a quarter of the countries' population.

Did you call in the Weymouth Angling Centre - that first pic looks very close-by?

And was that swan pic taken around the back of the bowls club/adjacent carpark near the old town bridge (past the bowls club)? I prefer actually on the bridge myself, and always have a look over the side at the mullet around the sluices (also handy for Wilkos).

It was close to the Angling Centre but i'm trying to clear things out ready to move at the moment so didn't dare go in. There is another Angling shop on the other side of the bridge now, think it might be the one that used to be on the main drag as I didn't notice that yesterday.

It was round the back, if you've got food the swans will walk over the coots to get to it. Tried to pick a coot up yesterday, but e wasn't avin it:snork:

Our family has spent many hours in Weymouth...my first visit was in 1972 staying at Bowleaze cove, the last was 3 years ago in Langston Herring. Mrs Pal and I sat watching the Mackerel fishermen at Abbotsbury.
Perhaps we were watching zig :dunno::)

Reels & Deals? - that's where my folding filleting knives came from. I normally snuck in there when Mrs Scrungee goes to the Tesco Express.

That was the one, couldn't remember the name Scrunge:blue thumb:

Stranger things have happened Nick, was talking to a bloke on the beach once & later found out he was "MainBassMan" from the fishing forums:doh:

Langston Herring - twinned with Charlton Mackerell:snork:
