I like my house. Its spacious, has front and back gardens, a drive for my car, and its not too far from town centre.

Its also not exactly where I want to be, its in an area with too many mischievous kids (most of them are ok to be fair), and its on the wrong side of the road (that's not snobbery, it means my back garden, the larger of the two gardens, is north facing).

I hate being indecisive. I was like this when we lived in Sheffield for 10 years. We never really settled because we could never decide whether to stay put or not, so we always sort of thought of it as temporary.

You could try a 'kill or cure' idea Clueless. Sign on with an estate agents, go and look at half a dozen properties or so and you'll probably find that will make your mind up either way. It will either spur you on to move or make you want to sit tight. :)

        Good thinking Clueless

Set a price in mind, and have a look around
Look in the nearby countryside (believe it or not the commute is sometimes quicker than from a built up area)

I lived my early life bred and born North East Penshaw for first five, High Barnes Sunderland for the next Thirty Then when returned from sea Married to a Scottish lady, I have lived here in the same house since, a New town
Scotland in the sticks is a bit like England in the 60's traffic wise, you can actually cross the road on foot

Visiting my Brother who still lives in Chester le Street, we went out on a Sunday run to a garden centre
You know all the years I lived there I never realised, the beautiful open countryside and villages in the County, There are some beautiful houses around at cheaper prices than the Towns

If I did not have all my family around me, I would move back down like a shot

        Regards Jack McHammocklashing

I always wanted to buy a massive motorhome and just live wherever suits on the day, but alas, I can't persuade the wife.

Hmm. North facing garden. I've got one of those. Grim, aren't they? I'd move.

A mod friend on another forum does that in America, whenever a storm is predicted, he just ups sticks and moves.

            He's currently in Florida.

I keep having casual looks in the estate agents windows. My house value is comparable to those in the parts of town where I'd prefer to be, and in any case I'm not stretched on my mortgage, so theoretically cost isn't a barrier for what I want (ie modest semi with gardens).

Its just the hassle of moving. See, i'd like to move, but I'm lazy.

My north facing garden has half of next doors very mature sycamore tree overhanging it.

To be honest, the garden aspect is only a minor point. I'm just restless.

Years ago, when the wife and I first moved away together, we met a traveller sort who claimed to be the real article (whatever that means). He read our palms (we let him because he seemed like a harmless local, and we didn't want to offend the locals on our first visit to their pub). He said the wife was a settler, but that I'd never settle. Naturally we dismissed his analysis at the time. I stuck that job out for 5 months, before moving back up here, where I very quickly got bored and took a job in Sheffield, and in the entire 10 years we were there I was always looking for somewhere else to go. We came back here, have been back less than 2 years, and already I'm wanting to move on, either within the town, or further afield.

Sit down with the better half, a pad and pen and jot down the pros and cons for leaving, and the pros and cons for staying.:dbgrtmb:
