Decorative tree trunks

Guys I`m looking for some decorative tree trunks for my 2013 garden project
but not a clue where I can get any.....any help?
something similar to this in the picture , but in a small scale ....has I have been told that there are heavy fine if collected from any forest .

 

Driftwood???

 

Talk to local tree surgeons, farmers, or maybe even the people at your amenity site (tip) they would surely be able to help.

 

Hi Sal, you could try a local Forestry Commission depot if you know of one, they could have pine root stumps in particular, or any other waste wood if they've done any clear felling in the area. Other than that maybe a saw mill, stuff like that would waste to them..

I googled driftwood for sale and it came up with driftwood sculptures that were very expensive, couldn't find one that sold it in its natural state...

 

Try a plant contractor who has JCBs etc.

That's what I'm doing at the moment. I want one of those upturned stumps for a Stumpery. Been offered two so far but the roots weren't suitable. The last time, he told me, "Wait for a storm."

 

I agree, driftwood is probably the easiest option. I say 'easiest', yet how you're going to get half a tonne of wood off the beach.

Another option is to ask a land owner who might have a tree or two down due to storm damage.

Shame you're miles away from me. I think I have a couple of trees down on my land, assuming the chap with with the chainsaw next door hasn't been and pinched it already.

 

Bog Oaks. Farmers on the fens dig them out of the peat.

Driftwood trunk would be really good , but impossible to find that size,
I can get driftwood from every pet shop , including tropical driftwood , but what I need is a proper trunk and stump a local Forestry Commission it`s an idea , along with jcb contractor.
Incredible how easy is to find material for some of us and impossible for others .

 

Saw this on the beach a few months back. This specimen was particularly large but its not unusual for tree roots to land on our beach.

 

Do live in a rural area? you could always try an advert in the local paper or freeads as some land owners or farmers might have a couple from recent high winds etc...

 

Clueless1 this is just what I`m looking for !!!! that would make a master piece for my tropical garden .

I don`t live in a rural area and all the forest around me are all small and owned by someone.

 

With all the floods there have been plenty going down rivers. When I've been river fishing there have been plenty that have been washed up in farmers fields. That is another way to find them ask a farmer.

Sal, once you find what you're after, have you given much thought about how you're going to get it where you want it? It's not going to fit in the average car boot, and unless you're Popeye and you've had your spinach, you aint going to lift it.

 

if you were in Alaska by now you would have plenty of tsunami driftwood on the shores coming from Japan.
