    Morning all

Not to every bodys liking but I just had to go to Stalybridge station yesterday and take these pics of 5 Deltic locos en route from Shildon to Bury for the East Lancs Railway Deltic weekend. According to my work colleague this will probably never be repeated. Hence the reason for standing in the miserable weather to catch a glimpse.

I can remember them thundering past the waterworks where I used to work.
Wonderful noise from the Deltic engine. Theres a cut away engine on show at the NRM. It sure is a complex engine.

Nice one Pip:dbgrtmb: I remember being hauled up to York by one on a school trip to The Railway Museum.

My stupid cousin brought the train to a halt by opening the door while we were going at 90mph:DOH:

Once spent 6 hours on Reading Station waiting for this to come back,

Missed it by minutes on its outward journey. What posseses a 13 year old boy when it comes to trains I can't recall, I do remember buying a cigar & box of matches just to warm my hand up:DOH:

Oh wow Pip! They are don't have the magnetism of steam, but Deltics are special I think & the engine is another engineering marvel...!! I think it was Chris Barrie who did an excellent program on them a few years ago now & focused on Deltics.. The engines are a marvel, but how on earth did he work out the timing..!!!
To me they look like really sad looking dogs, just like Droopy the Dog, cartoon...
[IMG] Yes I know weird but that's me.....

I was thinking exactly the same thing Marley. They have the look of a bloodhound. :)

            Thanks for looking folks,
Nice video ziggy, seen a maroon western haul a railtour through Manchester a couple of years ago apparently it was the first time one had ever been through the Piccadilly end.

Seen the cut out at NRM capney, amazing to think these engines were built for submarines and Lazydog is quite right about the horsepower 2x 1650 hp each.

Marley, I also saw the Chris Barrie programme which was facinating. I see where both you and sheal are coming from with the hounddog look :heehee:

Thanks for the memories, Though a Steam man myself, the deltics were a disappointment to me at the time but on reflection a magnificent machine

I used to "footplate" the Windy's and Streak's LNER Newcastle to Doncaster as a kid
Fortunatley I gave it up for girls before the glasses and anorak stage
