Can anyone help me with a question on deleting posts.I have just gone to delete one of my posts but have found the little box no longer there in which to do it.Sometimes I put up photos that are blurred or the same ones repeated,so would like to delete them and start again, but now I cannot do it.I thought the person who posts things are allowed to delete their own posts but no one elses.Hope you can understand what I am trying to say...Thankyou

    Kandy,

With certain things happening recently, the deletion of posts has been taken away.

I will not name names, but someone on here deleted a whole 3 (ish) page thread, because of the fact that they started it, so all input by others within that thread got vaped !

This has been implemented to save future things like this happening.

If you could see this from GC's point of view, if there is a very interesting thread, and whoever starts it deletes their first post/topic starter, it deletes the entire thread ....... Vaping all that is contained within it.

    Hope this helps

    Nathan,

With respect I can see why the deletion of posts has been taken away, because I have been guilty of that myself in the past when I put up photos of myself in my younger days, and then had second thoughts of who might be looking at them..

If I enter say three photos in the photo competition for a particular month, then find an even better photo to swop,I can no longer do this as the option has now gone.I might even think up a better title for a particlar photo that I have put in,but now can't.

I have found in my Iris photo thread that I have posted 3 of the same one,but now they have to stay there as I cannot replace them and some of my cloud photos are not quite right and out of focus, but there they will stay much to my chagrin...

I do see things from your point of view, about whole pages being Vaped{A new word I have learn't} but you need to see it also from a members point of view....

I won't name Forum's but was invited to join a forum where my photos could be displayed and I would have the option of deletion if need be,but I declined as I have been happy with GC and all it has to offer me....

    Regards Kandy

Kandy, you should still be able to 'Edit' your posts (the option I have chosen which allows you to edit only your posts).

This way, you still have the possibility to delete the content of that post, but not completely delete the post .... Even if you just leave an empty reply box if need be.

    Hope this helps

    Nathan.

PS. I do know which forum you are referring to ;) , I would be stupid if I didn't know :D

....and it might affect your ability to spell...

I found the same as Kandy recently - and it was a bit of a pain, but I can see your point of view, so just emptying the post in question is the only option, I suppose. Or, if in extremis, we can always apply to you or any other mod, to ask them to delete, I presume.

Pity others' actions have to affect the rest of the forum so much..... and rather ironic when you think it was supposedly rules that were being objected to..... [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Hi Nathan,

Thankyou for your reply. The only bit that won't look nice now is large areas of blanks with a red crossed box at the top like when GW and other members delete all their photos, with the reply's at the bottom. It looks scruffy and not tidy at all...

I don't think you will have any more problems, because most of those that have gone won't be coming back on here anyway...

I also wondered where the delete had gone you can edit a mistake in writing but it does look a wee bit untidy I agree with Kandy and Dendy found it a bit of nuisance but do understand.

And if we put on something we did not mean to or or wrong or by accident will just have to pm a mod to delete or not be so quick when we type.

    Have a nice weekend.

The old addage 'Think before you speak' or on a bulletin board'Think before you Type and Press ENTER' :D

If posts do need deleting, contact us, we do still have power to remove posts/entire threads.

As said above, with the 'Delete post' in place, it gave the topic starter the power to delete an entire thread ...... Not a good thing if there is a lot of useful content contained within the thread  .

I am glad you all understand.

    Nathan.

If you remove the content of a post, the system gets a bit miffed if you try to leave it empty. But a single period (.) will suffice and then you can pm one of us to delete. The names of the mods overseeing certain sections are listed in the right hand column in the main index. We will be more than happy to oblige when asked. Only Nathan, PCMedic and I have access to the entire board.

BTW - you need to be fairly specific when stating which post you want deleted so I would suggest that you copy and paste it into your pm so there's no error. This forum doesn't have a trash bin like some, so the WIGIG rule applies!
