Would delosperma be any good for planting around the bottom of my theives (conifers) - the soil is dry, pretty poor and powdery as you would expect at the foot of evergreens, and I am looking for something that will tolerate all of that whilst also being on the sunny side of the garden?

I have Delosperma in a place with poor soil that gets no rain and it thrives.

Dryish, lets face it, succulents endure drought, but its usually seasonal.
I've got some in a large pot on the allotment and if I dont water it, it just shrivels.
      And must be full sun.

It is likely they will get the occasional splashing from the sprinkler on the lawn @pete, but the soil there drains quickly because of the trees

I am now the owner of 20 delosperma plugs (arrived this morning from T&M), so the question now is do I whack them straight out into the garden (even if that is a 'holding' area until I can get them where I want them under the trees, OR do I pot them up for a wee while til they find their feet? I have an abundance of spent compost in barrels from last year, so they could be shoved into those for now until their final planting position is ready, however the barrels are in open air and are not as dry as the intended area?

PS - I think I have to add a note of fairness here; this is the third wee delivery I have had from T&M this year, and so far things are looking better than they have done in previous years.. for a start, I am getting the varieties that I have ordered...

The bigger they are when planting out, the better.
