And now it's time for the pond and wildlife area to mature...... (Apologies for picture quality - can't find the camera, so used the mobile  )

Mr D has done all the work on the pond, and it's pretty much finished now, even with fish in it, and he reckons we might even have a great crested newt.... so we're all eyes and cameras around that area now! We definitely have frogs, toads and smooth newts in the garden, so, you never know!

The pond leads to the boggy area, which leads to the back corner which has the main wildlife area, right up to the hedge (native species, of course!) and fence, backing on to the railway land, with lots of small trees and shrubs before you get to the main railway line itself).

If you are starting to think there's a certain theme to this pond area, you're probably right, but it's all Mr D's fault - nothing to do with me, honest!!! And it was MIL who organised those blue birds.......

And finally, the worst quality photo, sorry, shows some of the flowers and other plants in the wildlife area, including a very stick-like apple tree in the fore-ground..... it will be a big one eventually, as we chose a good-sized rootstock, and got it from an organic nursery in Ayrshire.

It reminds me of the willow pattern, you know with the bridge and the building thingy? [IMG]
I bet its nice and peaceful sitting there when the suns going down, very serene. I'd like to have that sort of 'feeling' in my garden too one day.

Yes, really nice dendy, give Mr D a well-deserved pat on the back. I just love the rocks with the little building and bridge, and it does remind me of the willow pattern too, same as mgn said.

That is truly lovely, dendro. I agree with mgn that it will be a lovely, serene place to sit in the evenings. I'm sure you'll enjoy it immensely.

The garden has certainly changed in the last year and a half and looks like it's been established for many years.

Well done to both you and Mr D! [IMG] [IMG]

    Thanks everyone! :

To answer a few questions, in totally random order......

Rosa, yes it's a frog, but not a real one!

Those who thought "Willow Pattern" are quite right - that's the effect Mr D and the MIL were after - to suggest exactly that.

Walnut, no, there's a river bed of pebbles only, but its purpose is to take away excess water from the pond as and when needed, down to the boggy area and wildlife bit.

We haven't sat out in the evening at it yet, been a bit cold when it's been dry enough so far, but we have sat out for coffee breaks and lunch. We get bats flying around in the evening, so I should think we'll be sitting out watching for those soon! ;)

Following the comments about how much change there has been, for anyone interested who hasn't already seen the first pics I put up in October, to show before and after, here's a link to them....

I agree, GP, running water is really soothing, and it's far enough down the garden that I can have my bedroom window open through the summer and not feel I have to keep running myself! ;)

Ohh I just had a look at your pics! Well done - you have done a really good job and the cottage garden is so pretty I want to come round for tea!

[IMG] haha I have a little pond too (I will post pics one day) and when I first put it in at Easter I did wonder if I could hear the water from the bedroom window but luckily, I can hardly hear it.
