I've just come back from the dentist too, Robert! Why did a party of foreigners have to pick on me to ask the way when I'd just had an injection? God know where they'll end up. I could hardly speak.

I think you can get a medal for going to the dentist twice on the same day.
I couldn't do it. I'm one of those people who has to psych myself up for it and I have to go first thing in the morning as I would be ill for the day just thinking about - and that's just for a check - up

That's the frustrating bit - paying for the privilege of potential pain and fear. No wonder dentists suffer from depression, when no one wants to go and see them!

Robert, twice a day, that's a bit excessive, I only go twice a year. :)

I'm founder member and life president of 'Cowards Anonymous' when it comes to the dentist. Why? I have absolutely no idea, it's like fear of spiders, totally irrational and yet I can't help it. When I changed dentists some years ago, I was brave enough to tell the new one just how much of a coward I really am. Whether it was true, (or just to make me feel better about myself) I don't know, but she said that one bad experience even many years previously as a child, had the same effect on many people - and fillings without anaesthetic were a bad experience in my book.

I know dentistry has come a long way since I was a child, that now you get an injection as a matter of course and I've had two lots of root canal treatment that even for devout coward such as me, weren't even uncomfortable, so by rights I should be over my fears, but I 'aint. What really hurts is getting an appointment - when I want to see my dentist she's usually scuba diving in the Seychelles .... so nice to know where my money goes!

I usually opt for fillings without anaesthetics. Unless it's a particularly bad one...

My gripe with dentists is there is no way you can tell if you are being ripped off or not. At least with a doctor, you can usually see/tell what the problem is. Teeth, you're stuck with the dentist and depending on him/her not telling porky pies to extract more money from you. That and finding a decent NHS dentist.
