I've just moved into a house which has a slopping garden to the rear. This slopes uphill by about 80cms from the front (nearest the house) to the rear of the plot, a distance of 4.5mtrs.. The width of the plot is about 10 mtrs.. There are some plants in there at present, 3 conifers and a few azaleas. I think the last occupant removed most of the plants when they left. I am at a loss to know what to do to make look attractive. Your suggestions will be helpful.

not sure what all your sizes mean, as I go by feet as the measurement over here. Anyway, I designed a slope a few years back, still working on it, this year in the revamping stage. But did put in a mixture of Heaths and Heathers (85 shrubs)--so some would bloom all the time, even in the cold months. Adding more to the slop this fall, and will again this spring. Put in a few low blue berry shrubs for the birds, and some tall golden rods, some red grasses, will probably tuck in low growing white roses shrubs in spring. In the spring, there are tons of daffs that bloom the slop already, and later the English canterberry bulbs in June, mixed with Mexican poppies, and May Apples. Revamping means, pulled out some of the Heaths and heather that were not doing well, to replace with other items mentioned above.

Hi T.D. my garden also slopes upwards away from the house. It's good in some respects as we can sit inside and easily see the garden, so a nice planting plan is in order. Getting colour all year round is something I try for, also some nice scented flowers. Heathers are good as Redstar says and if you have azaleas then I reckon your soil is acidic so they will do OK there.

O.K. Got some pics. now. See uploaded file. For those of you who don't use the metric system 1" is 2.5cms and a meter is 39". In pots awaiting planting I have 3 or 4 azaleas, a tree peony and several other peonys, 3 Orleanders ( in winter storage at present), spring flowering bulbs and 3 Astromerias, all of which I need to incorporate in the design.
There are some plants/shrubs already in the plot which I can remove or reposition in need be. Problem is I can't get my pics file from Windows 7 t
Got the pics. but can't get them to upload from Windows 7. Any ideas.

It's because you've got a low post count, the software won't let you upload a file until you've got (I think) over 10 posts :)

Thanks Zigs. Will keep seeking way around the problem. It seems strange because I have not had this problem before and it's my computer which says access is denied to the pics. I want to post. It would be helpful if Gardeners Corner website would tell me what the problem is.

Is it because I have not donated any money?
