I have to drive to Holland shortly and there is a particular plant that I have been after for a while that I have not found in UK nurseries, but there is a Dutch nursery that stocks it. Carriage is much cheaper to an address in Holland, rather than to UK, of course, so I was planning to get one delivered to the place where I will be staying ...

Anything else I ought to get whilst there - either because it is cheap-as-chips compared to buying in Blighty, or not available in the UK?

    Don't go mad OK? :heehee:

Good point, thanks. I assumed I'd be fine driving across an EU border, the link you provided seems to be OK, but as you say the @grown in the EU@ point is important. Hopefully a receipt of purchase will be sufficient.

Sounds like a good plan and that looks like a special plant. I've never heard of it before, have you seen it growing somewhere over here then?

Its come up, as seed, on Strange Wonderful Things a few times ... auction price went out of my reach though, and plants in Holland are not too dear (except for carriage to UK) ... I am trying some from seed (got a more afforable opportunity from somewhere else :) ), but looks like an opportunity to kickstart a plant :)

You could perhaps have a look at hardy gardenias? The trend started with Kleim's Hardy, a single-flowered one, then came 'Crown Jewel'...the first (reputedly) hardy double. They need acid soil, though, and the mail-order plants here have been tiny.

I'm sceptical about their hardiness from what I have read of other peoples experiences, and sadly we are not on Acid soil here - otherwise no doubt I would be filling my boots with Rhodies. I get depressed (well, "jealous" actually!) when I visit gardens that are smotheredwith Rhodies ...

Not heard of them Sal, I'll send them an email, thanks for that :)

Rhodies are alright while they're flowering, but sooo boring for the rest of the year:biggrin: I'd rather have neutral soil and swing it either way (in a manner of speaking:snork:) to be able to grow all sorts.
The -17C winter finished my Kleim's Hardy in a pot, but 'Crown Jewel' came through -7C OK this year. As with a lot of borderline plants, the strong sun seems to make a difference, perhaps it ripens wood more? Hope your trip goes well:)
