    Hello

I reallyn do need some advise. I have a Collie/ Lab . She is now 14 months old. I took her because she kept chewing at her old home and they had had enough.

One of the biggest problems I have is her digging. She will not stop. I have tried filling baloons and hidding them i the holes.. They popped ( as was the idea) and it did not bother her. I was advised to put her ' doings' in a hole ... that didnt bother her either. She had her own ' digging'area... and
that didn't bother her, she much prefers to dig the entire garden up.

She knows it's wrong as when she knows I am looking out the window she just plays with her toys. When I am in the garden , she wont bother to dig.

Pklease can someone advise , many thanks

    Hi goosegog,
although i have a collie cross i can't really help you. there will be someone on here who will be able to though. funny thing though you mentioning digging, my dog is around 12 years old & it's only in the past year or so that she has started digging. she only does it to hide either toys or food though. she has some grass that she has to do her business on, and the dirt around there is always marked. she took a fancy to the 2 plants there too (long leaved ones) & using them for hiding as well as a sort of bed!
She's so funny when she comes in looking all innocent, then you see the dirt at the bottom of her mouth :D

    Hope you get it sorted.

    Cheers

goosegog, when she's digging tell her NO really loud, even give her a sharp poke with your hand in the rib area, you will have to keep doing it untill she gets the message.. your the boss, she has to know that!! if your too soft she will destroy everything in your garden, Dee..

She is bored goosegog. Basically she is seeking attention. Dee is right you must shout NO at her when she is digging and show her the hole and possibly a gentle tap on the nose. She must learn that you can't spend the whole time playing with her.

Try using a water shooter from an upstairs window when she cant see you.

With dogs in order to be efective any punishment must be given within about 30 seconds of the miss behaviour or theyve forgotten what theve done wrong!

I find with most dogs a firm voice and eye contact is all thats needed to stop any miss behaviour, the same with my cat, the key is to be consistent.

have to agree with yd if you dont lay down the rules and show whos boss your not going to get anywhere if you use the stiff poke method and continue the dog will get fed up before you do.if you dont hurry up you might as well get in the basket and let the dog have your bed ;)

    :D :D :D inter,

Cassy was about 14 months old when i was asked to look after her for a while. she knew two things, how to catch flys on command and how to drink lager from the top of a can [IMG]
its not easy training an older dog, best to start from a pup, I trained her to basic commands, and house trained her too! You really have to let them know whose boss..then you can really enjoy your dog..
