    Hi all,
Can anyone help me? Want to buy a digi camera, but not sure what I'm looking at  Have a tiny budget (£100) but don't really understand what the hell the blurbs mean.
Can anyone help me? I just want to take nice pics of the garden;( oh! and the kids!), so I can join in with all the fun on GC :D

This camera is the business if you can stretch to it or save a little more. All my photos are taken on it and it has the most megapixels for such a small camera.

Superb deals to be had, I paid much much more than this when it first came out. There is a link for a review of this camera too.

I am happy with my Kodak 4460.Easy to use, not fancy, similar model now is about Ã?£100/120. Most cameras at that price now are going to be good enough for what you want, but budget for a bigger memory card 128 or 256 then you can take 100's of pics without running out of memory. [IMG]

I'm not really up on photography but I use a Sony CybershotP73, I'm not sure if you can still get it. 4.1 MP, I think its good enough for general use, as I understand it, (and I could well be wrong) you only need the large amount of pixels if your going to blow the pic up to some massive size.
I would like the capability to take close ups,and distance but I think your into SLRs for that, mega money.

Thanks for the links and advice guys,
Gets a bit confusing with all these megapixels and zooms  Doesn't help that the spotty kid in Comet spent 15minutes talking technical to me when it was obvious I didn't have the faintest idea what he was on about
Let's see if I've got this right; I need 4mp+,preferably optical zoom(not sure I can afford this - need to buy fencing to hide the hideous oil tank) and a decent size memory card.
Thanks again, it's much clearer now [IMG] Right, I'm off for a google

    Hi Windy,
It can be very confusing when looking for a digital camera  There are online guides which may or may not help. Personally, I wouldn't buy from Dixons or Comet or by mail order. Go to Jessops or a local camera shop . You need to try before buying [IMG]

A lot depends on what sort of photos you want to take. For close-ups of flowers and insect, you need good macro so try that in the shop on a page from a leaflet etc. For long distance you want good OPTICAL zoom. Take no notice of extravagant DIGITAL zoom boasts - you just get fuzzy photos with blotchy pixels exactly as if you enlarged a photo too much on your computer :(

For sharp photos you want a minimum of 3 Million pixels, but better to have more. Look at the Nixon Coolpix range - they come in a variety of types at a range of prices. They are excellent and have a very wide range of pre-set programs for all types of pictures ( close-up, sport, beach, party, museum, night etc etc) :D

The best camera for long distance is the Panasonic Lumix which has a 12x optical zoom - most others only have 4x optical zoom. It costs about £300. Good luck ;)

    [IMG] Hi Windy,
I got a new one a little while ago & I got a Fuji Finepix S56oo. I am very very pleased with it!! :D You could try for 2nd hand if your budget is small. Look in the link Liz put in. Nathan bought an older one for around £100. 3.5 meg pix is the lowest you want to go. I now have 5.1. This also takes the clearest video I have seen. Great for the grandkids sports day..!!! :D Check them out & try & get one with that facility.. :D

Also it's worth buying a charger and rechargeable batteries if they don't come with the camera! They're not expensive and save hours of frustration. [IMG]
