I have two Hibiscus plants both in pots and last year both their blooms were spectacular. However this year one of the plants has developed some distorted leafs. Not all of the leafs are affected in this way but as you can see from the photos it is quite prolific. I have looked in my RHS book and can find a section that shows similar distortion which claims it is due to irregular watering. I am a little surprised by this as I have been very careful not to let the plant dry out especially when the leaf was first forming. The other plant has not been affected at all as you can see. I am more concered that this will affect the blooms when they come - is the damage done or if I make sure the watering is regular from now on will the blooms be OK? Or is this due to some other problem altogether?

Charlie I have no idea! But, sometimes you get that effect caused by some sort of little bug/aphid that eats into and damages the vein of a leaf. As a result the unaffected part of the leaf will grow normally but the damaged part can't. Can you see any evidence of this?

    Charlie, I agree with PeterS.
I've had something similar on my own plants, and it usually does no harm, your plants look green and healthy otherwise, so unless it gets really bad I wouldn't worry too much.
Just keep an eye open for greenfly, maybe.

I have several hibiscus plants both in pots and the garden....I think your little bug is the erineum mite which can attack leaves and new buds .... to avoid this and other bugs I dilute a very small amount of ordinary washing up liquid in a water spray and treat the leaves to a good showering ...I use this as a general "insecticide" for all pot and garden plants.....very effectively..... Thank you all - in many ways that is a relief - I seem to remember a similar thing happening to the other Hibiscus last year. Anyway at least the plant looks healthy! I cant see any signs of a bug so I've taken your advice Mona Lisa and gievn it a good spray with Fairy liquid. Thank you
