do the experts lose tubers

    after i just lost tubers this year(dahlias) after being given the wrong advice ,i think the only thing i did that has not beeen mentioned before ..as i lifted them at the first frost cleaned them well hung them upside down and dried them out but was told to put them in a box of paper shreddings..didnt work. so next year i will use the sulphur method in either very dry peat or sawdust...but even if i use the correct method do even the best lose tubers ;)

    These days I dont lift them, I cut the stem to 6" then multch with compost or similar, 95 % come back fine, even in very exposed gardens.

    If I want to divide the tubers I do it in the spring.

    When I used to lift them, I would stick them in a wooden box with no compost and a sprinkle of sulphur.

    To bring them back to life in the spring id plant them out in 8 litre pots of damp peat compost in a coldframe, then plant out once shooting burying the shoots.
