do you earth up onions?

    Hi,

    My box patch is going live this year, and have just planted some onions, but just wondered if i should be earthing up onions like you do potatoes?

    :) I agree with kristen - a definate no to earthing up.

    In fact, you can do just the opposite to earthing up. When the bulbs really start to swell, you can scoop a little soil away from them to assist ripening.

    Sometimes when you plant onion sets, they pop out of the ground, pop them back in, careful not to damage any new roots!
