Is there one plant that you seem to particularly like? or one plant that you have more of than any other? I have just fallen in love with violas, I have them everywhere I can find a space and my other plants are having to make room for them, I think the reason I like them so much is because they are so delicate looking but have a long flowering period.

My first love are Red Acer trees but I can't keep them alive in my present garden, they don't like the weather or soil conditions here.

At this time though it has to be my Choisya 'Sundance', I've become quite attached to it since saving it after being flattened by snow at Easter last year. I had to prune it heavily too, so that I could tie it upright until the roots settled again.

Hooooo...could you narrow it down to 50 or, at a pinch, 20?:)
The only tree for me, though, is Arbutus unedo rubra.....and Eucalyptus glaucescens....and....:roflol:

I tend to favour a couple of genus - Salvia and Tricyrtis. And I'm also building up a bit of a collection of bushes and small trees in the Fabaceae family.

                  Hi Val

I will have to give this some thought... as so much I do like it would be hard to get in to 10 or less in fact impossible , daylilys are in the top at the moment but I have had this with other groups of plants in the past and only the stalwarts survive , tree peony especially my Rockii something I never thought I would get my hands on , but I do now ....

My favourite plant 'type' overall is the rose bush, mostly big fragrant hybrid tea roses which I am gradually planting throughout the garden.

My favourite plant for this year though is my hibiscus. I have two in pots which have bloomed continuously from June onwards and are still going strong now with beautiful mauve flowers all over. Much hardier than I thought as well.

My favourite tree is the huge ancient magnolia which dominates one area of the garden. It does need pruning but I'm so scared of damaging it I keep putting it off.

Spring- pansies with their big faces.
                      Early summer- regal pelagonium
Late summer- dahlia esp dinner plate, ball or pom pom
Tree- acer such as Katsura or orange dream
Shrub- very hard to choose! Probably rhododendron due to it being bulletproof and evergreen.

...Weed- primrose, foxglove or aquilegia! Oh and I mustn't forget nigella!

                      Well, where do I start?

                      Rhododendrons
                      Syringa vulgaris Sensation
                      Fragrant Roses
                      Acers.

I'd really love a Magnolia Grandiflora but I'm not sure how well it would do in a northern climate.

Today it's Schizostylis Jennifer (Kaffir Lily) because having been a clump of strap leaves all summer it's a sea of pink flowers now. Ask me in a fortnight it will be something else but in February it will be my Skimmea Fragrans and my scarlet Camelia.
