Yep - Dead Horse Point. It's a place a little north of Moab in Utah where I was about five weeks ago. The canyon was carved by the Colorado river which winds its way south-west from there to eventually become the Grand Canyon.

It's one of those places where you have a struggle 'feeling' the scale of what you're looking at. With no people or animals in the bottom of the canyon, sometimes you can't figure out whether you're looking at a six foot bush or a thirty foot tree down there.

No idea how old that tree was, but they say that the shrubs that grow there a lot are very slow growing. I think they were saying that a three foot shrub could be as much as 150 years old! I guess it's because it's so arid there.

I didn't see Bryce or Zion National Parks when I was there. Dead Horse Point is on the way to Canyonlands National Park - which we also didn't manage to get to, but looks every bit as spectacular in the photographs I've seen.

    Are you camping or RVing?

I though I recognised it louis.
I was there a long time ago, nearly 20yrs
Remember the story about the dead herd of horses

Great place, canyonlands is as good as the grand canyon for me.

I had to join a club in Moab just to get them to sell me a beer.
Wonder if my membership has lapsed.:D

    Sounds great!

Are you getting over to California for Yosemite National Park?

I'm back in the US later this year and hope to see Yosemite, and head up through Oragon and Washington and finally up into British Columbia for Banff, Jasper and Wells Grey Provincial Park.
