    Hello Gardeners!

I wanted to let you know about an ethno-botanic documentary I'm working on about bananas. The film is called MONDO BANANA and it examines the personal, agricultural, environmental, and cultural significance of the banana plant. We are currently in Thailand filming artistic and medicinal uses of bananas. Other filming locations have included China, Finland, Malaysia, and India. We have about 80% of our footage and production will wrap in October.

We've just begun a campaign on Kickstarter and there's an advance trailer on the project page, which will give you an idea of what the film's going to look like. Here's the link: MONDO BANANA by Ryan White — Kickstarter

You can also check out updates and see photos from our shoots, like our recent exploration of banana-leaf art in Thailand. Just go here: MONDO BANANA by Ryan White ยป A bit more on Banana-Leaf Art — Kickstarter

We urgently need the help of gardeners and plant lovers! Kickstarter functions entirely on a grassroots, word-of-mouth basis - and you can help us out ENORMOUSLY by simply spreading the word! If you you want to see this film get made please "like" us on Facebook, post the link on Twitter and blogs, and/or just pass on the info to anyone that might be interested.

If you have any questions or would like more info, please feel free to send me a message.

    Thank you for your time!

    All the best,
    Ryan

      Hi Ryan.
There have been a rash of tv companies flogging shows here recently.
This is just one stop of many; they c+p one post, contribute nothing else and are never heard from again.

Being 'marketed at' isnt nice, though others may feel differently.

      [/churlish!]

I hadn't realised that Finland was big on banana growing. You learn something new every day.

A lot of research on tropical plants has been done at the Helsinki Botanic gardens. Also, one of the primary subjects of the film is a former Finnish sea captain turned wild banana researcher...

Melinda - I completely understand your frustration!! I'm just trying to reach out to people who may be interested in an independent documentary on a botanic subject. At the same time, I can totally understand how that might feel from the other side - and I apologize for making you feel that I was just marketing you another product!!

Ryan, I apologise for being cynical. :)

And the banana leaf art on your site is beautiful.

I think we are more used to intricate and delicate work being crafted using blossom and petals.
As demonstrated by the annual Thai stand in the Great Pavillion at Chelsea.

In my experience of South Asia, outside of Festival times banana leaves have more functional and prosaic uses!

IIRC There are a few tropical garden specialists who post here.

Hi Ryan & Welcome to Gardeners Corner.. :sunny:

I am very interested in your project.. Bananas are a wonderful fruit & do have many health, digestive & other properties, that much I know..
I also know the banana could help in the fight against malnutrition in our very poor countries, so would be interseted to find out more it's uses..
Although it is very sad to know that they are trialling GM modified bananas in some countries too.. !!!!!

Another wonder fruit is the coconut you know.. :WINK1: I shall certainly spread the word & will look out for it, as programs like this are good for us gardeners to learn from as everything is finite in this world.. Good luck with it.. :sunny:

I had a look at this post before it went live, I thought a fair few of our members would like the film.

I like anything to do with banananas:)

The medicine that I overdosed on as a kid was Banana flavoured:thumbsup:

              Hello there,

you are basically promoting your video, so that would go in the bbc section...hang on, we haven't got it.

So that would be members blog/websites.

              Thank you for the attention.

You do not need to travel the world on expences to do Banana's
              Dundee botanical gardens manage
And to be really exotic you only need pop to Madiera

              Enjoy your Jolly
