Came across a beautiful crochet pattern for a Coat and waistcoat up in loft among my late parents things.

As it was my Dad that showed me how to crochet many yrs ago.

Now they are gone have no one to show me how to do the stitches.
I only croched a pram blanket.
If I scan the pattern with photo maybe someone

can do a step by step instructions for me.

Original pattern price on it is a jaeger 10p

Crocheting is very good for keeping joints supple, my M-in-L is busy making blankets as we speak (so to speak).

I am not an expert but i think if you used different size hooks it would just adjust the stitch size slightly..Just give it a go it will keep you occupied.. :D

I usually crochet an afghan or bedspread every year but did not do so last year as we now have an abundance of them! :D

You are correct, wildflower, using a different size needle adjusts the stitch size making the garment / item larger or smaller.

Good luck with your project, Skotkat. There are some beautiful crochet coats about.

So Lady of Leisure pattern says No 6.00 mm and No 5.50mm what I have of Mums is No 4.00mm and No5.00mm.

I really would like to make a bolero or shrug when you see th eprices in the shops ,but i am sure wool is not cheap to buy now.
I saw a bolero in Monsoon sure it was £45.

I still remember as a child having a white mohair bolero.

I really am going to have a go.

Using your Mum's 4mm and 5mm hooks will make the garment perhaps one size smaller so bear this in mind.

Yes, these items are very expensive in the shops now (not so much here) because crochet items have become in vogue again - hurray!

If you have a haberdashery or wool shop near you, you will always be able to find something reasonably priced, even on sale. Some department stores have yarn departments also.

Good luck Scotkat. Crochet, knitting, and craft in general are 'cool' again.

Scotkat, try making a tension square using the 5.00 hook, it should say on the pattern how many rows or whatever equal 1". If you are a loose crocheter it may be alright to use your larger hook and get the same size.
You can buy reasonably priced wool these days if you look carefully, I'd avoid the bigger stores though. I used to get wool from Wilkinson's also known as Wilko's but I don't know if they still do it or if you have one near you.

I like the long one. A classic will always be a classic [IMG] I learnt crochet in art/craft class at primary school but forgot. I intended taking up knitting last year, got some wool and needles and even contacted a 'stitch n bitch' group but just did not have the time to make it to their meetings. I really would like to though. Good luck with whatever you decide and keep us updated.
