    That is definitely a fraud!
BT do not ask for this information nor do they threaten account suspension.

Their e mail addresses look dodgy too. Why would bt be using a hotmail address.

Although BT have regularly threatened to, and have, suspended my account on account of me refusing to pay them :D

I didn't even have to read it all to know with absolute certainty that it is fraud. Its what they new kids call phishing.

For a start, its come from an anoymous mailbox in China. That does it for me.

Plus, nobody legit would ask you for your username and password, but that's irrelevant. It's from an anonymous mailbox in China. BT have their own web domain. They don't use anymous mailboxes in China.

Did I mention the bit about the anymous mailbox in China?

Premium rate tel nrs. that are actually the customer service numbers for a Hong Kong based ISP (not BT internet).

    scams

So far I haven't received any scam e-mails in the years I've had a computer, but I put it down, recently, that any coming to me get re-directed to Ziggy.

Any more emails like this and indeed, those you get from banks which tell you there's 'an incoming payment error' (especially when you don't have an account with them - or even if you do), ring the legitimate BT or bank number and tell them, very often they ask you to forward the email (unopened) to their phishing department who, with a lot of luck and a strong following wind, can trace the source and put a stop to them.

Any large companies and those dealing with finance would never send an email. They would always send a letter and they would never ever ask you for your information, merely that you log in and update it yourself if the need arises - which it hardly ever does!

I had a such a one supposedly from the Inland Revenue last year. I printed it off and showed it to the lady when I went in to attend to some other issue. She pointed that out to me the following
    - they'd never email, only send a letter
    -
they wouldn't require the details of my bank account as they already have them
    - they wouldn't require a client to claim a refund, it would be paid directly into their bank account and notification sent by letter
    -
the term GBP had been used instead of £
    - the email wasn't actually addressed to me or anybody
    - it had no reference number
    - and they would never sign off with anything as unbusiness-like "best regards"!!! :heehee:
