hi my garden is heavy with clay and gets waterlogged easily
    [IMG]
so i have fenced off an area between the shed and planter and plan to fill level to the top of the sleepers and gravel boards with soil with grass on top with a grass protection mesh.

i am planning to dig a trench next to the sleepers and fill with rubble but what mix would help the soil drain well cheers j

Not sure your question???? If your asking how do I stop my dog from going in there.
The answer is simple you train him not to go in there. I have vast and several gardens. My dogs knew not to walk in there, they always walked around.
They are very smart ---dogs---that is. With the right communication from humans you can get your dog to understand what you want from him. And if he does not get it the first time, its not him, but your approach.
And that is not yelling etc. its simply expectations and rewards.

Well Woody, I re-read your entry. And it was totally open for vast interpertion.
Your supposed question : what to fill the area with ect-ect. was no where asked.
So the area is for the dogs you say, I guess I would consider how long they are in that area, laying on the area, how it affects their paws, easy clean up.

Hi woody,I think a solid base might be best. Any waste can be easliy scooped and urine hosed and diluted to avoid bad smells.
Our enclosure was edged with a concrete channel ,then filled with old railway ballast and connected to a soakaway that was running into the sewage system.

i have since dug a soakaway and filled it with rubble in the centre of the pen area and will be getting some soil delivered from a workmate this week .
so next job is filling it in and levelling it off.
then comes the seeding of the grass and keeping the dogs off it for a while lol j
