They really are a completely different breed of person! And I've yet to meet the same person twice.

I think I have chatted to more people while out with Ozzy in the past few weeks than I did in all the years I lived in my previous house. No kidding!

Whether it is at the beach or at the woods, *everyone* stops to chat - or, if they are in a hurry, a brief "Morning!".

    It is wonderful :dancy:

Mr Mum is a rather "reserved" sort of fellow but even he has caught on to this doggy etiquette. Trouble is, it sort of backfired for him ... he was so getting into the swing of things with a "morning!" here and an "afternoon!" there on our walks that he forgot to notice one individual *didn't* have a dog. Mr Mum bid him "morning!" and the guy gave him a filthy look, didn't respond and marched briskly off :heehee:

Everyone wants to say hello to Ozzy (but we have observed that it is the women who approach him first, without any qualms regarding his size/potential temprement; while their men only greet him after they know he hasn't bitten their wife's arm off :heehee: ).

    Such a different world.

Its great for breaking the ice , walking a dog ! When we walk Maya we talk to all the other dog walkers ( carrying the little plastic doo bags ). We only walk her for 45 mins max now as she has a little heart murmur , and definately no swimming which she loved.

People who care enough to walk their dog, are always friendly. It`s like a secret society. :pathd:

I dont have a dog did when we were kids and we always picked up the poo and disposed .

Have to say there a lot who dont and we live in a private housing area.

When you go out walking its like dodgems have to say.

I know all dog lovers are not like that but there are some I have to say.

Sorry it does get to me.

Scotkat, it's generally the youngsters with their Staffies that do not seem to care or at least that is what I have observed. Sometimes I feel like offering them a plastic bag as I always carry at least half a dozen but to be honest I am too scared to. I did clean up after one the other day but there is a limit to how much you can clean up. They just let their dogs go anywhere.

That's nothing to do with the other man's lack of a dog. The other man quite simply was being pig ignorant.

I haven't had a dog for years, so I'm not a dog owner. I like to think that has no bearing at all on my manners, and will happily pass the time of day with anyone.

Ah but you are a northerner, clue and we're standoffish southern folk :heehee:

I remember as a child visiting an Aunt in a small mining village in Yorkshire; I was sent to the shops to get some "spice" ( :dunno: - was even more stunned when my Dad's relations, futher north, sent me out for "bullets" :hate-shocked: ) and everyone, I mean *everyone* greeted me as we passed. I thought my Aunt must be someone really famous if everyone knew her and her visitors.

Made my mother chuckle when I told her and that's when she highlighted a fundamental difference in North/South "culture" ;)

But, yes, the man was being pig-ignorant and I was proud of my man for his courtesy.

Hi Mum, I'm glad you posted this, I too have discovered a new social circle since taking on Megan. I'm glad this is working out for you :-)

I have an interesting afternoon of walking ahead, my mum is a volunteer dog walker for a local rescue centre and she has been walking the same dog for years (sadly nobody wants a middle aged Labrador ). As she is my back up support when I have to work away occasionally, it would be really helpful if Megan and Nina got on. Fingers crossed!

That is sad. Labradors have about the best temperament of any pooch.

I would take a middle aged lab! In fact, went back to the DT yesterday for just that reason. Ozzy does have a strong urge to play with the "friends" he meets on walks and because we can't trust him off lead, have decided we should really get a 2nd dog so he has a buddy in the garden  DT have advised waiting until at least 6mths after we adopted Oz (which is sage advice) and I have expressed a preference for an older dog. Seems they don't get them very often.

Mr Mum took Oz to the beach today (his first walk with him alone) and they have had a blast!! I'm quite envious .... I was stuck at home doing accounts

Sounds like Megan is settling in very well, Yvonne :dbgrtmb: Keeping my fingers crossed for a blossoming friendship twix Megan and Nina! :)

There's a beach I go fishing on, Codgen. You have to walk thru a NT Nature reserve to get there, lovely spot till you get to the gate down the bottom which is festooned with little plastic bags of poo.

                      Why, why why???

I went for a walk this morning in the park where I used to go with my Dog Zoe who died back in September.
Its strange but nobody wants to talk to you if your'e out walking alone.

It think the dog breaks the ice kind of.

Dog owners talk to one another, but the joggers mostly dont, but maybe do to other joggers?
I think if your out walking with a dog you tend to find people look upon you as having similar interests.

If you are out walking alone, they just think you are suspicious.

When walking my two I end up chatting to all and sundry...what infuriated me is people that don't keep thier dog/s on a lead and just let them wander anywhere with total disregard for those that aren't keen on them...for what ever reason....and don't even mention the doggie 'do' buisness....:gaah:there are alot of people that don't 'pick up' after thier dogs and give the rest of us a bad name....saying that i carry 'it' maybe a couple of miles before i come across a bin round here and when i find one it's full to bursting....even spoke to our local councillor about more bins...she's still getting back to me......3 years on....:wallbanging:....
If i had kiddlings i'd have raised holy hell by now with regard to some dog owners that let thier dogs run free on the playing fields and :mute: all over the football and cricket pitches:gaah:
Where i used to live the chap across the road was so fed up a particular man and his dog using outside his front path as a toilet (the dog not the man) he actually 'saved' it up followed him home and dumped it outside his place:yes: Nice one:dbgrtmb:....
AND it's like when anyone has the dumpy bags deliverd out side their house full of sand and some let thier dogs cock thier legs up on them...my dogs have been tempted but i pull them away........................................................
Oooooh i'm off on one...i'll leave it there:biggrin:

Yours ....Lolimac (one of the biggest dog lovers in the world)

I hate that. We sometimes see them tied to trees in the woods. I have no idea what logic is behind it, unless it is some sort of twisted protest at being asked to scoop it up.
