    hi,
we recently bought a dog and i have started to notice burn patches around the edge of the lawn where he likes to pee,
Does anyone know of a cure for this?
i have heard that you can buy tablets or even rocks that go into their water bowl?
    any tips?
Also i was told today that its a good idea to put down a little chicken manure in the form of pellets at this time of the year to help feed the grass good idea?
    thanks

I was browsing a lawn book today in the local GC and its comment was that this was more of a problem in the winter as the grass was not growing quickly.
There suggestionwas to water the patch where the dog has just peed to reduce the urine.

The best answer is of benefit to both the dog and you. Take it out for lots of walks, especially first thing in the morning.

The answer is not to put down nitrogen as too much growth at this time of the year as I think it can cause other problems.

I don't know Chriz. I don't have a dog. But the problem I have is people with dogs who just let them lift their legs and pee on my hedge. Big brown patches and the dog owners seem to think I'm mad if I say anything about it.

I've not heard of anything working, other than simply not letting the animal 'go' on the lawn. Not much help I know :(

    Hi there,

I asked my friend about this, he said:
I’ve heard various suggestions of things to add to the dogs water / food but no stories of them actually working! Your best bet may be to train the dog to go to the toilet in a specific part of the garden - choose which bit of the garden you’d like him to go in, then go back to basic housetraining mode – regularly take him out on lead to that spot, when he goes to the loo praise him with attention / treats or toys and let him off lead for a game. You can buy sprays to encourage dogs to toilet in a specific area, these may help. If your dog insists on peeing in the rest of the garden, maybe use chicken wire etc for a little while around the edges to prevent him getting to the plants.
    Good luck!
