This is the time of year the plant starts to produce its seeds and the birds make a good meal of them. :blue thumb:

Very early this morning I saw nine birds on this clump of them but it was not light enough to take a photo.

I started taking photos as it was getting lighter and then the battery on my camera ran out

Also, the seeds will be scattered now, so that the plant can do its random movement around the borders!

I've never been able to grow this. It always dies off early and never sets any seeds.

I have tried a few times. The plants I plant don’t survive, but seedlings pop up - I think from the compost - around the place. This year I grew 4 good plants. Two in my tomato planter, and two in one of the raised vegetable beds!:heehee:

We have masses of them, similar to the picture above, all over the garden. The ones that grow the best are in the least fertile areas. :noidea:

My first time growing Verbena B. Grown from collected seed and they are spreading.
I have always wanted a nice group as Monty has in his jungle and pretty much every other garden on TV has.It was all over Chelsea flower show.
Certainly a plant on trend and has been for some years and they are not short lived.

I had some growing in the tarmac on our driveway from old plant seeds. I managed to get them up with some roots on and potted them up they're doing well. It doesn't bother me if they don't seed, it's cheap to buy the seeds.

We looked out the kitchen window at 7.45 this morning at the bunch above (it's about 10ft from the window) and counted 18 or 19 goldfinches having a feast. It wasn't light enough to take a photo - tried but too blurry :noidea:. We could see numerous other small birds (not light enough to tell which) on other bunches.

The bird feeders were also full of birds that appeared to be finches - plus two woodpeckers.

Maybe it was breakfast time.

I haven't cut mine back but no goldfinches or any bird on them, perhaps the goldfinches prefer the sunflower hearts in the feeders, but they do make a mess of them.
