It's where they sell off half-dead plants or plants that have finished flowering.

Unfortunately, they do. Compare Waterstones to a WH Smith's with smelly carpets and hazard tape.

My local garden centre in Carmarthen appears well run, but even they have Dutch trolleys where they sell off things that have finished flowering season eg daffs in spring. I suppose it's not worth keeping them as they don't have space.

I find it is supermarkets and convenience stores that often have trolleys full of dead or dying plants.

But they're beyond saving and there's never a reduction.
I don't know why they don't just put their plants directly off the delivery truck onto the compost heap.

Our dear Wilko used to be a treasure land.... they swiftly reduced anything slightly droopy but perfectly salvageable to prices like 1p.

The dead trolley (love the word) is the first thing I check when visiting a garden centre  .

OK, the second, after checking if their cafe serves white wine in dainty bottles.

i think the dirt and hazard tape in a smiths makes it more homely.

I thought a dead trolley was one with at least one seized wheel and one that just goes it's own way.

No, that's a toddler trolley - refusing to move (generally whilst screeching loudly as though being murdered) or running off at whim.

Or to put it another way, @shiney, it's soooooo much less of a giveaway than leaving a full size empty on the table. Dainties fit in pockets and handbags ;)
