In the garden today, I have all but a couple of stems, dead headed all the doronicum. I felt so sad, I get really excited waiting for the first sign of spring, after the crocus's its generally doronicum for me, I seemed to be waiting forever and after a beautiful display they have now gone. Ok I am looking forward to summer as everyday there is something else new to look at, a new flower open, my first lupin opened today, got a buzz out of that, but I did have a quiet moment contemplating the loss of another part of another year. Does anyone else have any markers of the year moving on, by what their garden is doing

Yes sharon, not so much with individual plants perhaps but after getting thro' the winter period, its so nice to be potting-up (my favourite gardening activity), closely followed by making out plant labels!

Each to his own, as they say! :D :D

Oh DAG you are a good boy - I struggle with potting and labels, thats why I never know names of things.

Sharon I love my doronicum too - I have it double planted with phlox, this way when one plant has gone the other takes its place later in the year.

As to seasons, well of course snowdrops and aconites.
Then aubretia, tulips, daffs, then all the full herbacious colour - then comes the big gap that everyone tries to fill with Dahlias etc and the close of the season has to be my ?aster/fricartii?? blue daisy thing that goes on for ever, with nerines.

    Hi, sharon,

If you like the doronicum flower than you ought to get yourself a Ligularia palmatiloba flowers at the end of may. Not a low grower like the doronicum though.

    Both beautiful.

Waco, so did I struggle with labels - hated it!

Then my daughter bought me one of those nice labelling machines (expensive!) but that changed everything, so addictive, just a boy with a toy now! :D

Nothing has faded so far, but then Paladin has come up with something that costs nothing at all, makes you sick don't it? :D :D

Yes DAG I saw paladins answer th the label - have to say I thought it a work of art in its own right.

Trouble is I move stuff with gay abandonment, just as an artistic whim, its only later that I think "what the b1oody hell was that". You get my drift now.
