Yesterday my son presented me with a rose bud on a shortish stem. It was from a rose bush my neighbour has.

I was interested in the thread on here that talked about starting cuttings in a thread of water. I have taken a section of the stem, only about 3" long I'm afraid, removed the bud and trimmed the bottom of it just below a leaf node. I've taken all leaves off and stuck it in a small glass of water.

What do you reckon my chances are? I'm guessing somewhere between nil and non-existent!

Do I need to change the water? And how long to give it?

Hi Jim and Vick My my oh ye of little faith:hehe:
Cut a rose stem about the diameter of a pencil. Cut off any blooms. Get a glass of water. Put the rose stem into the glass of water and set it on a window sill filled with bright but indirect light. Change the water every two or three days. Wait. When the rose roots, plant it in the garden.:old::)
