Could anyone tell me a simple way to dry mushrooms without the aid of any fancy equipment?

I have a load of oyster mushrooms I'd like to dry pronto!

For example can I use an oven at a low heat?

Polish grandmother would dry all kinds of 'toadstools'(there were some horrible looking ones) by stringing them over her old gass cooker.

I'd reckon that with a modern fan oven, a couple of hours on low heat might do it. We dried sliced apples that way last year and then finished them off in the cupboard above the hot tank.

You might also try pickling your mushrooms, we've done that with chanterel mushrooms.

Yes, a fan oven would work but I think it would take more than a couple of hours- you want to dry not cook- depending on size of slices. I have a dehydrator [fancy gadget!] which is great for drying herbs, fruit etc but some things take overnight.
