    Hi there,

I bought some young chilli plants from the garden centre several months ago. They are growing well and flowering, but no chillis! The flowers simply drop off and that's it - they've been flowering for several weeks now with no results.

Are they duds? Last year I bought a slighly more mature plant and had a plethora of chillis.

    Thanks,

    Kate

If they are indoors then insects can't get to them and pollinate the flowers. Shake the plant each time you water also quickly touch each flower to help pollinate.

If they are outside in the heat we've been having it could be blossom drop... I had that problem with Aubergine and Sweet Pepper flowers dropping off.. so I moved them to where there was slight shade and now both plants have lots of fruit.... failing that I'd go with what John says.

I planted up a load of chilli at the same time. Some went on the stall for sale outside & the others, i've potted on, watered & fed on the window sill.

The outside ones i've only kept watered & not potted on are flowering already, next year i'm going to ignore them, they seem to do better like that !

Thanks for the replies. I have 3 inside and 3 outside and the same thing is happening to both sets?

Maybe it's blossom drop then...I'll try putting them in the shade as at the mo they're all in full sun. They may just be rubbish as I did get them very cheap, but I'll give them another go.

Hi Magrat. If they're in full sun then I think the flowers are just frying.
As you say, put them in the shade for a few days and I think you'll get fruit set.
They're pretty good at pollinating themselves but give them a wee shake to help them.
Let's know how you get on.
