Dutch Table Top Apple Growing Method

    Not what it sounds like.

    Just been watching a prog about growing apples in England for the supermarkets. They want to increase the amount of home grown apples that they sell.

    Found the method very interesting, it involves growing the trees with 3 to 4 branches at low level, then a single cordon reaching 10-12 feet.

    Idea being that the apples get the maximum light and warmth to increase the yield, which seems to be working great.

    The main variety they are trying is Gala, a New Zealand apple that needs a decent amount of light to do well.

      Yeah I saw that prog, wasn't it sainsburies pioneering the method, with Greg Wallace histing the prog?

        I notice that they use soap against aphids - something we keep getting told is not allowed but always ignore.
