    Hello
I've grown runner beans before quite successfully but this year I thought I would be different and grow a dwarf variety (sweet and juicy) but the plants are infested with a tiny white fly. What is it and why have I got it
In anticipation, thanks for your help.

I mainly find whitefly when I have not done crop rotation in the past. I rotate all crops now and don't seem to be troubled by it.

If you are really bothered by it, you will have to spray with soapy water, or put up some yellow sticky traps which they are attracted to. This will reduce population.

I don't know if anybody else has any help for you.

I underplanted with bush basil and fench marigold to deter whitefly. I was very pleased with the results as I'm normally plagued by them.

B&Q do an organic fatty acid spray which is effective against whitefly.

I've used the organic fatty acid spray and I still have whitefly ... one lots goes and another lot is hot on its heels!

it only kills the ones it comes into contact with so you have to re-apply.

I do appreciate that ... I went through the container very quickly as I was having to use it daily! [IMG]

You could try insect netting Poppet. I'm usually plagued with whitefly and caterpillars on my brassicas and hate using insecticide. This year I netted and have had next to no problem.
Another and cheaper option might be horticultural fleece.
