I have a section of garden where years ago I planted some slow growing dwarf conifers and a cotoneaster. They have looked lovely, but now the conifers have become very big, and since I became widowed during the past year the maintenance is down to me. Can these be pruned at all or will this just spoil the shape? Thank you

    Hi Diana,
Well I am sure you could reduce the Catoneaster as that will come back, but I am not sure about the conifers myself.. You can reduce their height very easily by just taking the tops out & reshaping & open up the middle up. but as regards their width I would say not as you will trim into the old growth that has been obscured by the new growth.. As the maintainance is down to you I think I might look at having them taken out & re-plant with easier to maintain shrubs perhaps, but that is just me Diane wait & see what others say
