I sowed a row of Annabel French beans 19 days ago with no sign of germination. Should I dig them out as I don't want them to rot in the ground

They would need watering to germinate in this current dry weather. They might still.

I start any type of Bean on damp Kitchen Roll, when they start to germinate I put them in those throw-away coffee cups from McDonalds/KFC.

They've had plenty of water. As an experiment I dug down to one at the end of the row. Nothing so I tried further along, same result. Out of the whole row I found only 1 seedling and that looked poorly. So that's it for this year. Next time I'll start them off in pots as you do john558.

I germinate all my peas and beans on damp kitchen roll and then pot up and grow on until several inches tall before planting out. Otherwise I get very poor success rates.

If you have left I'd give it a go.

        Agree, it's not too late.
Could it be mice eating them.

Pete, John and Nigel, I've taken your advice and sowed a couple of dozen onto damp kitchen roll. I've nothing to lose have I. Any idea of the timescale of things hopefully happening?

Keep them warm, not hot, and you could have two leaves by this time next week.

I chit my beans on damp kitchen roll and usually get germination within two days then plant them immediately.
