I would really like to plant a rowan, to have rowanberries to make jelly and jarzebiak vodka. My problem is that the only place I have to plant one is (a) only about a yard from a house wall and (b) would badly shade a window if the tree grew to much over six-seven feet.

So: is there any such thing as a dwarf cultivar of rowan, and if yes, where can I get my hands on one? (I know there are loads of different kinds of Sorbus worldwide, and some of them are very small, but it’s specifically a rowan that I want.)

If not, how invasive are rowan roots? Can I restrict the root spread and the height of an ordinary rowan by planting it in a dustbin or something, as people often suggest for fig trees? Or by any other means?
