I've got a relatively old Dyson that until now has been spot on. Today, in order to try & identify a sudden loss of suction, I've discovered where it's losing it... where the power cable comes into it! Does anyone know anything about these, whether I can fix it or not? It's not really an area I can get to or block in any way

Where the cable goes in shouldn't make any differants to the loss of suction, i think you may have a seal which is gone or have you change the two filters or is the motor still running at it corect speed
    Which one have you got

    Edit
Have you just empty it, is it back together as it should be?

Hi @Jiffy :) I'm not sure of the actual model, it's a pull-around with the head on a flexible hose.

You can feel the air movement at the place where the cable goes in. Block it as best you can with your hand and the suction improves. I've cleaned the filters, it's been emptied, I've cleared out all the bits trapped in the head. The motor still sounds the same, it starts off sounding fine then after about half a second you can hear a different internal sucking noise and then suction isn't the same

I've never changed them from new. The filter is a round yellow dish with a removable blue spongey section, both of which was recommended to be washed at least every 6 months

When you say cable, do you mean the suction hose? Check around it for splits??

No it's where the power cable comes out of the hoover, it's got an auto-wind above it. That's why I was quite surprised to feel air movement there! Something's not right in there

I have a suspicion that it's the motor casing that is cracked - bear with me, and I'll see if I can dig up a parts list tomorrow

Hmmmm, I am not overly sure here - can you have a look for a model number on it somewhere?

I am still thinking that the housing (or at least one part of it) around the motor is split or damaged and letting the air leak out.

Each part of the casing is between £20 and £40 (I'd suggest using espares if you do want to get parts as they are very good indeed), and not massively difficult to replace.

          This video might help:
