I did see a buy it now on it, but popped in 2 pounds to be cheeky, I won it for 99p, now the seller is crying foul, she wants me to pay either the buy it now price or cancel. She says she paid 120 pounds for it.
My head says make her sell, my heart says no, I was in a similar situation with an expensive cashmere coat of my husbands, didn`t think when I listed it, but withdrew it before anyone could bid with hours to go.

Tricky one. If I was the seller, I would just bite the bullet and post it, because that would be my part of the bargain. It was up to her to think it through, after all. She could have paid a few pennies to list it at an acceptable price to her but chose to take the risk of putting it to auction. The principle of an auction is that you accept the auction outcome.

How much was the BIN price? If you are feeling very kind you could meet her halfway on the price. But then, she'll never learn and it will encourage her to browbeat more of her customers and flout the principles of ebay. However, you can't make her send it, so if you really want the coat you'll probably have to give way. She would have been better off lying and saying she'd just spilt ink on it by accident, or something!

The thing about ebay, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. If you'd ended up paying much more than she was hoping for, she wouldn't refund you half of that, would she? So I think you are free to do as your purse dictates and depending on how badly you'd like the coat.

Also, you cannot usually expect to recoup even a quarter of the tagged price on ebay clothing, even with a new item. The exceptions are if the item is very fashionable or is a fantastic, well-known label, then you might be lucky. So, the coat is not worth £120 even if that's what she paid. An eight of that is more realistic.

    Let us know what happens!

Well Pam it is her loss if she had it listed twice & one was a buy it now, she should have withdrawn the auction add.. You won it fair & square at 99p.. !

I looked at her feedback, she has a negative that suggested a P.O. mix up, and someone purchased an item for which she refunded the payment no explanation, her buy it now I thought was 15 she says 18 and it`s not coming up on the page,

Sounds like she is not the best Ebayer then Pam.. I would certainly stand my ground at 99p, I think I might contact Ebay about a seller dispute as well...

I think Ebay would back you totally. If she wanted to wriggle out of the sale, that's why it would have been better (for her) if the coat had had an unexpected accident. Not that I would advocate lying but it would have saved this mess!

You retain the option of giving poor feedback whatever happens.
I assumed it was an auction with BIN option. As soon as someone bids the BIN option disappears. I've noticed a lot of duplicate listings, i.e. two listings for the same item but it's obviously a second hand one-off item. Do you think these are genuine mistakes, or do people list twice and sell to the higher bidder?

She had the option of either putting a 'reserve' on the item or doing it as a straight 'Buy it Now', she didn't want the cost of adding the reserve, and unfortunately the winning bid was only 99p.

I would not feel upset by this, as she had the above options when setting up the sale through Ebay, it was her choice, if you had made an error in buying for around £200, she would expect you to pay, it also does state that when you have something for sale on Ebay, that you are legally entering a contract, the same applies when you place a bid to buy, you are entering a contract.

I should just add, I bought a 3 piece suite with a pouffe off of Ebay around 6-7 years ago, nothing special, but it was very clean and only around 18 months old, the only reason she had it for sale was due to having building work done, moving their kitchen wall into the living room more (increasing kitchen size and decreasing living room size), when moving the wall, the sofa was now in the way of the opening door of the patio door).

The winning bid was the opening bid, £50, which I placed with 3 seconds to go, not allowing for any friends to shill bid the price up.

When I turned up to collect with my van (Fully Sign Written), she more or less insisted on payment before I saw the sofa..... I paid her, but thought she was being funny from the outset, I got in and spoke to her about the reason she was selling the sofa.... I ferried the sofa to the van and made sure I had it loaded, and then asked her why she hadn't just reversed the opening side of her patio door so that it was the left hand opening instead of the Right ....... Her face was a picture, and I felt no guilt as she had up to that point, treated me as if I was going to load the sofa and drive off quickly.

She did also mention that her sofa she had ordered had been delayed and that she was going to have to pull in the garden furniture to sit on for another week.

I can't see any problem Pam, if she had wanted a higher price she should have put a reserve on it. Legally speaking the coat is yours for 99p, won fair and square.

So what, it's still secondhand as it doesn't have the tags on it, and if she wanted £120 then she should have put that as a reserve or Buy It Now non-auction.

I've had similar experiences with sellers, once I won a job lot of comics for my son very cheaply. The seller claimed he had left them out in the rain so couldn't go through with the deal. So he got a negative - and a report sent to ebay about him, not much else I could do.
